£202 raised for Macmillan Cancer

October 05 2016

On Friday 30th September we joined the nation by hosting our very own BIG COFFEE MORNING.

The event was a huge success in many ways.  Not only did we raise £202 for the charity but it was a great way for the company to down tools for a couple of hours and have a chat over each others home baking and a coffee.

As part of the fun we had our own Bake Off competition with a panel of judges made up of one of our Ucan Recycling volunteers, a horsey lady from the livery yard next door, our BDM Vicky Machen and our very own Paul Hollywood - Rob Seal.  The entries were excellent and I didn't realise how much talent we had between us.  First prize went to Dawn in Finance for her Rhubarb and Custard Cake using home grown rhubarb no less.  Steven Smith, one of our IT Technicians came second with the most amazing Ucan Recycling cake complete with models of Rob and myself  made out of Royal Icing! I was fortunate enough to come third with my blackberry and blueberry crumble cake, made with blackberries picked from Brookfields Farm!

Learning that we have a talented and creative colleagues wasn't the only thing we gleaned from the morning, it was really nice to get together and get to know our colleagues. We are often so busy doing our jobs that we don't stop to ask each other about themselves, turns out Anne Marie is really into upcycling furniture and decorating, move over Kirsty Alsop! And Vicky is kept busy in her allotment and has just invested in a scary looking weed wand to zap the nasty hard to get rid of weeds.

We as employers will be certainly up for doing another event like this in the future, as not only is it great for the charities it boosts morale as well.
